Caring for babies from 3 months old.

At Mi Kids Warriewood, our Nursery and Toddler Room caters for children aged 3 months to 2.5 years, providing a nurturing and homely environment where each child feels safe, loved, and supported to grow at their own pace.

Our beautifully designed spaces use organic, warm, and inviting colours to create a sense of calm and security. The environments are thoughtfully arranged to stimulate sensory development and support babies and toddlers in reaching their physical and developmental milestones confidently.

Building strong foundations for junior preschool

Our Nursery and Toddler Room programs focus on developing the foundational skills children need to thrive in the Junior Preschool Room, including:

  • Physical milestone development, such as crawling, standing, grasping, and walking, supported by safe spaces and equipment that encourage movement and autonomy.
  • Finger Gym Program, building fine motor skills and hand strength through age-appropriate activities to support feeding, grasping, manipulating toys, and early pre-writing skills.
  • Self-help skills, such as assisted self-feeding, drinking from cups, and simple dressing tasks, fostering independence and confidence in daily routines.
  • Strong sensory program, incorporating music, reading, singing, art, and material exploration (Play-Doh, clay, paint) to support brain development and sensory processing.
  • Communication development, with educators supporting babies and toddlers to use verbal and non-verbal cues to express needs and ideas.
  • Social and emotional learning, helping children label their feelings, regulate emotions, and begin to understand empathy and sharing – all important for successful group learning in Junior Preschool.
  • Daily reading sessions to foster a love of books, build early literacy skills, and develop attention and focus for group experiences.
  • Happy Feet sessions introducing creative music and movement, supporting rhythm, coordination, and confidence.

General transition between rooms

We support smooth and confident transitions for children by:

  • Holding Happy Feet sessions in the Toddler Room for Nursery children to become familiar with the space, educators, and routines of their next room.
  • Hosting family sharing times in the Toddler Room to build familiarity and comfort alongside trusted family members and educators.
  • Providing opportunities for toddlers to visit the Junior Preschool Room and Upper Playground, helping them explore new environments gradually, build confidence, and form connections with future educators and peers.

This gentle, supported approach ensures children feel secure, connected, and ready for each new stage in their learning journey.

Reaching physical milestones

In the nursery we focus on reaching physical milestones like crawling, standing, grasping and walking by providing many opportunities for autonomy, like assisted self-feeding, flowerbeds and seats in the purpose-built nursery playground where they can pull up on their own and stand and take steps.

Strong sensory program

There is a strong sensory program which will be part of the daily activities including music, reading, song, art, sport, material exploration like Play-Doh and paint. We will introduce social and emotional skill development by covering the core elements of labelling feelings, taking turns and sharing.

Optimising time spent with educators

Our first and foremost priority is putting our children first and providing them with quality care.  To achieve this we believe in optimising the time educators have with each child through increasing the educator to child ratio in each room. Also for educators to be more present with each child we are restricting documentation for daily learning to be only a reflective journal for the day with meaningful photos. We strongly believe children will benefit more with educators being with them in the present moment and are tailoring our system to allow staff to concentrate on achieving this.

Transitioning between the nursery to the toddler room

To help children transition between rooms we have made the nursery and toddler room open so children can freely move between rooms in the morning and afternoon.  Likewise, the preschool rooms are open for free-flowing movement between rooms to encourage relationships to formed between children and educators in different rooms.  To assist children in settling in we actively encourage consecutive day attendance, with minimum 2 consecutive days preferred, so that children are socializing with the same children most days enabling them to form bonds and participate in the program happily.

Settling babies

We always put the child’s needs first and to ensure children settle in, we actively encourage consecutive day attendance, with a minimum of 2 consecutive days preferred.  We find that having consecutive days assists with the children seeing familiar faces each day, which greatly assists with the settling in process. However, we understand the individual needs of each family and always take this into consideration when dealing with attendances.

Mi Kids has an orientation process which enables children to visit our centre for short periods of time, before their actual first day in their room, to assist them meeting their educators and new friends. We strongly suggest that each child has at least two orientation sessions before they commence. We welcome you to phone in and check on how your child is settling into Mi Kids and we fully understand that you may need to call for re-assurance at anytime.

Ongoing support and involvement

Our early childhood educators provide an ongoing record of children’s learning and development and families are encouraged to access this information.  We will continually discuss with families our observations and together with families set out short-term and long-term goals for their child’s growth and development.  Also the educators will discuss the learning styles that their child is strong in using Gardner’s theory. Throughout the year there will be educational summaries and milestone checklist reports provided to families to show their child is meeting the goals set.

Our curriculum

Following Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligence, Mi Kids embraces the different learning styles of each child through the physical environment and through our daily programs, expressing learning opportunities in multiple ways through music, bodily kinesthetics, mathematics, visual, verbal, nature and group experiences.

Our menu

All meals are made on the premises by Isara Crea our cook and co-owner. Tested on our own families to ensure that they are child-friendly and tasty for little mouths. Filled with hidden vegetables so to give parents/carers and guardians a peace of mind that their child has had a wholesome meal during the day.

Some meals will be prepared with the children’s assistance as part of the Mi Kids cooking program. All meals are made using seasonal fruit and vegetables fresh from the markets rotating each season to provide and introduce a variety of meals to the children.
